foxBMS 2 version 1.12.0 available
We are happy to announce that you can now get the minor release of foxBMS 2 version 1.12.0 on GitHub.
Highlights
Simplified Configuration System
The new BMS configuration system organizes settings under conf/bms in JSON files, including the SOC and SOE lookup tables. During the build, foxBMS generates the battery-cell, battery-system and diagnosis C configuration files from those JSON definitions. In addition, validation catches incorrectly typed values early.
Separated Measurement Processing
This release separates measurement validation from BMS control logic. To support that change, the new BMS Values module prepares cell and pack measurements and calculates cell-voltage and temperature statistics using valid measurements only. Additionally, dedicated plausibility checks cover current, power, voltage and temperature measurements, including freshness where applicable. Redundant cell-voltage and temperature measurements are optional; by default, the system does not require them.
Build Toolchain and Unit Testing
This release also improves the build toolchain. With Waf, developers can now build embedded unit tests directly, which significantly speeds up the process.
New Features and Diagnostics
The ADI AFE driver now supports temperature-sensor multiplexing. Furthermore, this release adds FRAM-backed tuning values and offset/gain calibration via CAN, support for the TDK B57334V5103F360 NTC thermistor, and a GUI for editing diagnosis-array settings in JSON configuration files. It also expands the documentation with topics such as BMS measurement processing, CAN communication and multi-string SPI configuration.
Dependency Updates
As usual, this release includes the quarterly update of internal and external tools.
| Tool | Version |
|---|---|
| Waf | 2.1.9 |
| Python | 3.14 |
| Python environment | 2026-07-pale-fox |
For details on updating dependencies, see the installation documentation.

We publish major software releases for our open source BMS platform every 3 to 6 months and interim bug fixes when solved in the News section. By subscribing to the foxBMS Newsletter, you will be informed when the new releases are available. Further, the foxBMS Roadmap and the Documentation are also updated regularly.
Warning: The foxBMS 2 platform including the foxBMS 2 hardware and the foxBMS 2 software are under permanent development. The free and open research and development platform foxBMS 2 as presented in the documentation hereafter is not provided to be used without any adaptions (e.g., to fulfill mandatory regulations) in consumer products, electric vehicles, production environments or any similar usages: the open source version of the foxBMS 2 platform is only intended to be used by skilled professionals trained in designing battery system prototypes.
